Blean Bison Project

The Blean Bison project is an exciting partnership project that has seen wild bison return to the UK, in the woodland right next to our park.

Our country used to be home to Steppe bison, large herbivores capable of managing woodlands naturally that benefitted an array of species. Returning these ecosystem engineers to our woodlands are now our best chance at recreating those grazing behaviours that once existed, promoting biodiversity and resistance to climate change.

We are offering interactive workshops aimed at KS2 children, to promote understanding of the project and links to Stone Age history, when the bison were last found here.

The workshops are split into two parts

‘Past’ workshop, where children join us in our outdoor bushcraft area, and are immersed in life as it was in the Stone Age. They will learn the importance of animals for human survival during this time, see how people lit fires and hunted, and take part in traditional activities such as cave art and making jewellery.

‘Present’ workshop takes place indoors and children will learn about the Blean Bison project through dressing up and interactive games. This promotes understanding of how animals and plants are connected in an ecosystem and introduces the concept of rewilding for conservation.

As a special offer, you can enjoy both of these workshops for the price of one: £45 per group of 30 children.
