This Easter, in the bushcraft arena, I was intending to get you experimenting with wild natural dyes from the various spring plants that are bursting through the forest floor at Wildwood. Unfortunately, with coronavirus lockdown, any plans have had to be shelved and I am obliged to work from home.

Wild weasel at Wildwood

To see a weasel in the wild you generally need two things; very little plant cover and a lot of luck. The reason for the first is that these small, low slung mammals simply disappear in any vegetation, and are hard to see in all grass but the shortest of lawns.

Wildwood welcomes first babies of the year

Ash, Wildwood's young female wild boar, produced a litter of two boarlets last week and has just brought them out of their nest. Proud father, Sherwood, is keeping an eye on the boarlets who can be seen keenly exploring their new surroundings. This is the first birth at Wildwood this year with others expected to follow any day, such as red squirrels, reindeer and Soay sheep.
